I play in server Sydney, and this is what legion war is like here: the strongest legion, which always has the top five strongest players during legion war, crushes whoever dares to challenge the map by guarding the front gate and revive spot with fearful pots. It was quite a success for them, as after several weeks, none managed to even break the front gate. And now most are not even bothered to try.
I would say the cause of this was only 50% determined by their high pot. And we have a chance to change something. But firstly I need to talk about the things you do legion war.
How many of you may know, yet ignoring the goal of legion war? Legion war is about occupying the map (or defending for occupants). To do this, we need to break the gates to the city, a pole and a shield. When the pole is destroyed, the legion that did the most damage (reflected as legion war contribution above the players killed ranks) to it will occupy the pole. And when the shield is destroyed, the legion that occupies the pole will occupy the map.
There is a special skill you can use in the map: Dragon Morph. The skill is what separates legion war with family wars and PK tournaments. When you use this skill (note: the skill cannot be used when you are on a mount, and you cannot use the skills of pets you summoned in this form), you turn into a dragon (dino?) and the damage you receive is greatly reduced. A player with double my pot only did 300-400 damage to me when I was in dino form. Note: you can only have one life in dino form, i.e. when the outermost converged pet dies, you will die even though you still have other pets converged.
Also, in the form of a dino, you will be allowed to jump. By holding ctrl and clicking where you want to land, you can escape from opponents in just a few leaps, consuming some of your SP. In addition, if you attack other players in dino form, you may decrease their pot (personally I think this is not so useful, as no matter how many pot you decrease from high pot players, they are still high pot -.-¡¯).
Now, here comes my small idea.
First of all, all the invaders should unite together to fight the occupant of legion map. Although all different legions are assumed enemies during legion war, they have the same goal: to cease the current occupant¡¯s occupation of the map. Therefore, our very first objective is to ensure the change in occupation of the map. All invaders should as least stand together to destroy the gates to the city and the shield, and the only place to fight between invaders should be near the pole.
I have seen many semi-pros who are not trying to destroy the gates etc, but are killing others who are trying to reach the gate. If you think you get experience by killing others in legion map, test again carefully. If not, what is the point of killing your fellows that have the same goal (first goal at least) as you?
Second, also the main component of my idea, is to make use of dino form to get to where you want (for example, the front gate). The players guarding the front gate are so strong that you die before you can even see the gate? The problem is easily solved using the jumping skill of a dino. Once you see the players guarding the gate, jump once next to them (they may thunder you once), and then jump again to next to the gate (they may thunder you again). As I said in dino form even players with double your pot only do 300-400 damage to you (thunder), then congratulations you have made it to the gate if you (or your outermost converge) have more than 1000 hp. (You can even just run in if you have a lot of hp.)
Now don¡¯t stay there and do nothing to let others kill you. Quickly change back to human form. And you will now have 4 lives, if you are converged with 3 pets. You know what to do next! If you are a warrior, cc (chain chop) the gate until it crumbles. If you are a mage, thunder the gate until it melts. There is no need to groan if you die, because you are now one of the bravest soldiers that dare to challenge the once unbeatable, and you have made everyone closer to a defeat of the current occupant. (If you die in legion map you won¡¯t lose anything.)
Maybe you will question, what if they have warriors with cc to stop you from advancing? Yes, it is more than possible to happen. But all you need to do is gather 2 or 3 friends, and go in together. How many of us can they stop at a time? If you bring 3 friends, and I bring 3 mates, they will star cursing for not having enough warriors online.
My friend and I tried my idea at the last legion war. With only 2 people and about 30 minutes, we managed to destroy 1/10 of the HP of front gate. Only 20 people or less (as the more people, the more proportion gets pass cc) is needed to break the front gate. And similar applies for the pole and the shield. Once we break the gates, the defenders need to spread out, which makes it even easier for invaders. Now, how many people are there online during legion war times? 200? No, there are way more.
Remember! All legions unite against the occupant is very important, there is definitely no point killing other legions if you are not the defender. And with the help of dino form, 500-pot becomes not so fearful.
